Heidelberg Lecture Series
“Fighting Unemployment during the Corona Crisis: A Transatlantic Perspective”
Prof. Dr. Welf Werner, Director of the Heidelberg Center for American Studies and
Professor of American Studies at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at Heidelberg University
Under the auspices of Deutschlandjahr USA 2018/19, the American Council on Germany and the Heidelberg University Association partnered to hold a series of in-person “Heidelberg Lectures.” Over the next few months, we plan to continue this collaboration in an online format as part of WunderbarTogether 2020. The first lecture took place on July 17, 2020 with Heidelberg University’s Prof. Dr. Welf Werner, who discussed how the United States and Europe are implementing labor market policies to address unemployment during the COVID-19 pandemic. A recording of the entire event can be found here.
HAUS Virtual Kaffeeklatsch #2
The second HAUS Virtual Kaffeeklatsch took place on June 8, 2020. Laura Budzelek treated attendees to a song at the beginning. Dr. Max Jungmann of the Heidelberg Center for the Environment then shared the latest activities from HCE. Following the presentation, attendees enjoyed a casual catch-up session with one another.
In lieu of in-person regional events, HUA organized the first HAUS Virtual Kaffeeklatsch in order to bring together alumni despite the restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 20 alumni attended the VKK on May 1, 2020. After a brief introduction, the group broke out into smaller group rooms for conversation.
